Why Finishing

This isn’t painting. It’s finishing.

Cabinet finishing is a specialized process: proper surface preparation, professional-grade products formulated specifically for cabinetry, and the expertise to get it right on-site.

Most painters don’t finish cabinets. We do, and the difference is everything. We use advanced European-formulated, waterborne coatings known for superior flow, build, and longevity in high-use environments. The result is durable, beautiful, and built to last.

Painting vs. Finishing

The difference shows up on day one, and on year five.

A brush and a can of wall paint can’t produce the finish your new cabinets were built for. Here’s what separates the two.

Typical Painting

  • Wall paint or hardware-store products
  • Brush and roller application
  • A quick scuff before the first coat
  • Visible brush marks and a softer film

Rand & Sons Finishing

  • European finishing systems engineered for wood and HMDF cabinetry
  • Professional spray application
  • Proper surface preparation with dust-free sanding systems
  • A factory-smooth finish built for high-use kitchens

What’s the difference between painting and finishing?

Painting typically means brushing or rolling on general-purpose paint. Finishing uses professional-grade products formulated specifically for cabinetry, proper surface preparation, and spray techniques that produce a factory-smooth result you can’t get with a brush.

Can you finish cabinets that are already installed?

Yes. Every project is completed on-site, in your home. We mask and protect the surrounding space and work clean to keep disruption to a minimum.

What products do you use?

We work exclusively with European finishing systems designed specifically for cabinetry, engineered for wood and HMDF. These aren’t hardware store products. They’re what top cabinet shops use on new builds.

How long does a finishing project take?

[CLIENT TO CONFIRM: typical timeline for a standard kitchen, and how long before cabinets can be used normally.]

What areas do you serve?

We’re based in West Baldwin and proudly serve Southern Maine. Not sure if you’re in range? Give us a call.
